Pauli Paananen is a Dutch-Finnish violinist based in Amsterdam
Pauli Paananen was 5 years old when he started playing the violin as a pupil of his parents. At the age of 7 he became a student of Hans Scheepers in Amstelveen, whom he studied with until his studies at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He completed his bachelor in the class of prof. Peter Brunt and is continuing his studies with prof. Maria Milstein. He has also received masterclasses from renowned violinists like a.o. Mathieu van Bellen, Ioana Cristina Goicea, Anatoli Melnikov, Daniel Rowland and teachers at the Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki. Pauli has played chamber music with his family and friends since he was a child, and he won a third prize at the Inter Provinciaal Muziek Concours together with the Helders Strijktrio already in 2008. At the age of 14 he won a first prize at the Artiance Concours in Alkmaar, and was admitted to the Rabo Talentenlab young talent program. Pauli has also played in several youth orchestras, among others in the Noord-Hollands Jeugdorkest, conducted by Bas Pollard, for six years - three as the concertmaster. He was concertmaster of the conscript band of the Finnish Defence forces in 2021, and is a member of the Nationaal JeugdOrkest, where he has played as (co-)principal several times. Since this year he is also a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. He is currently playing on a violin built by Johannes Bernardus Cuypers (1814), on loan from the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.
